Rice is the most widely consumed staple food for a large part of the world’s human population, especially in countries of Asia and Africa. It is the agricultural commodity with the third-highest worldwide production. Rice is grown in more than a hundred countries, with a total harvested area of approximately 158 million hectares, producing more than 700 million tons annually.
By the grace of GOD, Pakistan is among the top ten countries with highest production of rice. Rice is grown in fertile lands of Sindh and Punjab region where millions of farmers rely on rice cultivation as their major source of employment. Among the most famous varieties grown in Pakistan include the Basmati, known for its flavor and quality. Pakistan is a major producer of this variety.
Rice contains various vitamins and minerals such as B vitamins (including thiamin, niacin, and riboflavin) and iron. Rice is also an excellent source of manganese and magnesium.
